Description

This course provides a wonderful project-oriented studio setting for those who have painted with acrylics before, even at a very basic level, and who wish to continue to paint projects in a supportive and organized environment. We will focus on the compositional design, procedures and techniques, through projects, such as, nature and village scenes and floral. Highly experienced teaching artist, Tony O’Regan (toregan.com), will organize and demonstrate each inspiring painting project, encouraging individual expression and development.

Recommended Materials for Acrylic Painters:

Note – Treat all paints with proper care – They are professional materials. Buy from reputable makers/suppliers, READ THE LABELS – Use as directed by manufacturer. Keep away from food, pets and children. Use gloves or barrier cream. Avoid skin contact. Always wash hands.

2 Acrylic-type Brushes: one flat for shapes ¾” to 1” ; one point (also called a round) for details #6 or #8 – bring whatever other brushes you have to the first class.

6 Acrylic Paint tube colours (shown in order of preference): ONE RED (a deep crimson such as alizarin or rose madder or quinochridon), ONE YELLOW (any spectrum yellow like hansa), ONE BLUE (ultramarine), ONE GREEN (viridian or pthalo), ONE small tube BLACK (small tube – any black), ONE WHITE ( large tube titanium only) You tend to use a lot of white with acrylic paint. Bring 2 white vinyl erasers to use as scrapers.

One roll of paper towel / Pencil 2b or 4b, paper for notes

Palette and water container provided

A SMALL spritzer fine water spray bottle

CANVAS – 16 x 20 per session (stretched canvas is best, or your preference) coat it with titanium white acrylic paint and let dry – Bring one to first class and get more as needed. We will discuss then.

One small natural sponge and a white vinyl eraser for scrape-texturing.

Instructor Bio
Tony O’Regan was born in Cork, Ireland in a house called Santa Lucia, built by his uncle, Mark, a singer in the big band era. He grew up Canada and in Florida, and was educated in Art and Architecture. He painted many paintings and designed many buildings. Tony painted in Paris and the West Coast of Ireland. He taught Art and Design in major universities for over 20 years, including Emily Carr Univ. and UBC. He uses his skills in architecture, perspective, and landscape design to compose his images of what things are and what they might be. He drinks coffee at the Pelican Rouge and sketches gulls by the great White Rock as they ‘gyre and gimble’ in the waves.
