Participants will learn how to create a well-written and persuasive resume and cover letter compatible with Applicant Tracking Systems. On the second evening, students will learn effective interview strategies focused on answering behavioural-based interview questions.
Day 1: Resume & Cover Letter Writing Course
A professional and polished resume and cover letter ensure that your application captures the hiring manager’s attention. In this course, we will examine the steps you need to take to ensure this happens.
Students will walk away with an understanding of the different types of resumes and which works best for their unique needs, general resume guidelines, and standard resume components. Instruction will include information regarding language, style, and format and tips for targeting and tailoring your resume for each application. In addition, students will learn how to identify and correctly use action verbs in their writing. Cover letter writing techniques will also be introduced using a simple eight-step format to help students land more interviews successfully. Sample cover letters, resumes, and worksheets will be provided.

Day 2: Interview Preparation Course
To stand out in today’s highly competitive job market, you must prepare well before an interview, whether on the phone, in person, or virtual. This course will introduce students to the necessary steps they should take to leave a lasting impression on their next interview.
Students will receive instruction on research they should undertake about a potential employer before attending an interview, including skills and experience valued by the employer, the company’s culture, mission, and values, and other relevant details. Insight will be provided on how to best dress for an interview to leave the right impression and portray good body language (i.e., sitting properly in a seat). The difference between behavioural and competency-based interviews will be examined. Guidance will be provided on the recommended behaviours to adopt and avoid before, during, and after an interview. Students will be able to practice general, entry-level, situational, and personality interview questions and become familiar with some of the most common job interview questions and answers. Sample interview questions will be provided.
