Description

Punjabi for Beginners will give you skills for basic conversation needed for travel or communicating with co-workers, neighbours and friends. Over six evenings you will learn basic grammar, vocabulary, greetings, numbers, and simple conversation needed for shopping, ordering food, hiring a taxi, or small talk about the weather, sports, pets, or conversing with Punjabi-speaking customers at your work place.

You will also learn the relevance of food, dance and festivals in Punjabi culture as well as Punjabi history.

Your Instructor, Dr. Inderjeet Singh Mann acquired a B. A. in Punjabi Language and Culture, a Diploma in Applied Logic and Reasoning (Philosophical Logic in Language), and an M.A. and M. Phil. in Political Science, before completing his Ph. D. in International Studies: Canadian Studies through Jawarharlal Nehru University, Delhi and Simon Fraser University, British Columbia. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship through JNU and the University of the Fraser Valley, British Columbia. Dr. Mann is a former Assistant Professor of Political Science at JNU Delhi, Central University of Punjab, and at Government Rajindra College, and is currently teaching at Northwestern Polytechnic University, Alberta, and also teaching Punjabi language, literature and Culture at Guru Nanak Institute of Global Studies, Surrey. Recently, he worked as Political Scientist’ for the South Asian Canadian Legacy Project at the University of the Fraser Valley. Dr. Mann chaired the World Congress of Political Science at Montreal in 2014 and has also worked with Amnesty International. His current research interests focus on the South Asian Canadian Diaspora and its issues and multifaceted aspects in Canadian society, as well as Punjabi language curriculum development, teaching, and literacy.
