Free Motion Stitching – Enhanced

$94.99 CAD

Description

This weekend is for students who have previously taken the “Basic” Free Motion Stitching
course, or for those who are familiar with free motion stitching on a regular sewing machine.
There are many ways to stretch yourself creatively.

The first day will cover Image Development Strategies. These will help you delve into your
personal choices of colours, textures and patterns and imagery. You will be using paints,
stencils, water colour pencil crayons, and of course, your sewing machine, fabrics, threads,
yarns and embellishments.

The second day will be about image transfers incorporating the skills from the previous day.
There are many ways to take existing photographic and ink jet images and integrate them into
new and exciting mixed media art works. You will create the beginnings of truly personal and
unique fabric art pieces.

You must bring:
Personal sewing machine – the simpler the better.

A darning foot for your machine (very important)
**If a darning foot was not supplied with your sewing machine originally, they are
available on amazon.ca by searching “darning foot” under “All Departments”.

Instructor Bio:

Karen is a retired secondary art teacher from the Surrey School District and eagerly stepped into her personal world of art making when she “renaissanced”. Textiles, fibres, hand stitching and machine stitching have always been part of Karen’s life; doll clothes when she was young, sewing in high school Home Economics, textile design at UBC in the Art Education Department where she learned everything she knows about using her sewing machine as an art tool. Her hands and heart are never far from a needle and thread of one sort or another.

As a life long learner, Karen works at her passion daily exploring a variety of techniques and media: free motion stitching, both 2D and 3D, rug hooking, contemporary hand embroidery, fabric collage art, machine needle punching. She creates functional items such as book covers, book marks, cards, bowls, brooches as well as fine art fabric collage pieces. There are never enough hours in the day for all the things to be learned and created.

Karen’s motto is: I create fabric art with TLC – texture, layering and colour (and of course, love).
